My first experience of the mighty Thunder Rider was courtesy of Hawkwind's earth shattering appearance on Top Of The Pops in the summer of 1972, a moment that rather changed the life of this 14 year old in search of something! I only ever met him in the flesh the one time, sometime around 1989/1990 when he played at The Crypt in Deptford with his All Stars (where I took the photo), it was only ever e-mails after that, but his presence always stuck in my memory. Struck me as a thoroughly decent guy, very friendly and approachable. I think it was the proudest moment of my years running the Music & Elsewhere label when in 1998 we got to release "Judgement & Thunder" (M&E 440), a collection of his collaborations with the also much lamented Judge Trev. Thanks for that and many years of great music, Nik, much appreciated. Watch out, universe, your masters are back together again...
